How to Prevent Or Remove Acne Redness

Ever seen someone whose acne has gone away, but whose face is still all red? Acne redness, a reminder of the pimples that used to cover the skin, can persist for up to a year (or even indefinitely) although it normally goes away within twelve weeks. How can you avoid getting acne redness, or get rid of it once you have it?

As it happens, there are some cheap, simple remedies that you can try using ingredients you’re likely to have around the house. One of the most effective is to use garlic. Just peel the garlic and cut it in half, then rub it over your face where you have acne redness once per day. Afterwards, you can get rid of the smell by washing with lemon juice. This method will generally get rid of the redness within a week.

If you don’t care for garlic, you can just use the lemon juice: combine it with an equal amount of water, then apply the mixture to your face and leave it there for half an hour. Afterwards, wash your face gently.

A slightly more dangerous option is toothpaste, which dries out your skin and makes the redness less noticeable; the risk is that you’ll dry out your skin too much. After applying toothpaste to the red areas (use only white toothpaste, not gel), leave it on for an hour or so, then cash your face. You may want to try shorter periods and less visible areas at first to ensure that it won’t irritate your skin.
